BRYAN GALLION is an Emmy-nominated journalist who most recently specialized in social media sleuthing and visual verification at NBC News.

He played leading roles in breaking coverage across the network for an array of stories around the world, including the Potomac River mid-air plane collision, Los Angeles wildfires, deadly hurricanes, mass shootings and the Israel-Hamas War

Bryan earned his latest Emmy nomination for helping track down family members of people whose unclaimed bodies were used in medical research without their knowledge for the investigation “Dealing the Dead.” The series won Edward R. Murrow and George Polk awards.

Before NBC News, Bryan wrote and edited breaking coverage of state, national and global news such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War for The Associated Press. He also helped revise AP Stylebook guidance about using social media as a reporting tool and verifying user-generated content.

In 2020, Bryan was one of the youngest members of the press corps at President Donald Trump’s first Senate impeachment trial

His investigations about homeless encampmentspublic housing evictions and the impacts of urban heat on low-income Baltimore neighborhoods won national awards. 

Bryan has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from the University of Maryland, where he was named outstanding male senior in 2019.
